“Not in the zone” vs “In the zone”

This underdrawing or ‘cartoon’, is a great example of how profound a difference being in ‘the zone’ makes for me. The kudu on the left I drew first, right after sitting down, and without any warm-up sketches. Looks like a child drew it. The kudu on the right I drew next, having been drawing for a good ten or fifteen minutes at that point, my brain was in “drawing mode”, resulting in proper artist quality work. Suffice it to say, I will erase the first Kudu and redraw it before painting ensues.
