Been working on this quite a lot lately. Most of my time was being spent mixing up more green paint. This was remedied by a trip to the plastic store to get a bunch of little tubs I can tube paint into and mix up more than what will fit on my watercolor palette.

While sitting quietly on the lawn waiting for Hadedas and Barbets to come out, this little Southern Masked Weaver was going to town on a palm tree, ripping off strips of leaves and flying off to wherever he had his nest. This seemed like a good opportunity to practice some more watercolor. I think I’ll have to paint more paintings with large flat areas of color to practice my washes, but I should imagine trying to get a smooth wash in watercolor is a challenge for anyone who is used to the ridiculous open-time of oil paint.
